Are the Right People in Your Boat?

Open a discussion about the people in your team and how they work together.

Maxwell DISC

What this programme helps you work on.

Questions about team fit are more useful when they begin with the work and the evidence. Are the Right People in Your Boat? opens a facilitated discussion about people, roles and how the team works together. Participants identify questions to investigate before drawing conclusions about an individual’s suitability.

Who it suits

Leaders considering people and team fit.

The focus

People, roles and team fit; scope agreed before delivery.

Inside the programme

What you’ll explore.

These themes guide the learning. The depth and selection depend on the format and the needs you bring.

Clarify what the team needs

Describe the work, responsibilities and coordination required for the team to perform effectively.

Explore working preferences

Consider how people approach tasks and relationships, checking impressions against examples rather than relying on labels.

Examine role and support gaps

Discuss whether unclear expectations, missing preparation or the design of a role may be contributing to difficulty.

Identify further evidence

Choose the conversations and work examples needed to understand a team or role question more fully.

From ideas to action

Put it into practice.

Identify a team or role question to explore with further evidence.

An example to work through

Take a role where expectations and performance seem misaligned. Describe the required work, identify what is unclear and prepare questions for a conversation with the person doing the role.

This is an example of local application. We adapt the discussion to your situation and agreed scope.

Your practical takeaways

What you’ll work towards.

  • A clearer description of a team or role need.
  • Questions about fit that can be checked with evidence.
  • A next conversation about expectations, support or role design.

The learning experience

How it works.

Facilitated learning combines explanation, discussion and reflection on participants’ own situations. Where the agreed format allows, you practise an application and decide what to try at work. Scope, duration and any follow-up are agreed around the group’s needs.

DISC describes behavioural preferences and supports discussion. It is not a clinical diagnosis or a complete judgement of ability or suitability for a role. Report inclusion and the debrief format are confirmed for the engagement.
